Tennis Courts, Abbey Fields, Kenilworth
Keep the tennis courts in Abbey Fields free to use after the new swimming pool is built.
Exercise is important for physical and mental health. Even more so during the Covid pandemic, it is vital to retain outside exercise facilities that are accessible to all irrespective of financial circumstances.

This petition has been reviewed and the following response has been offered:

Thank you for bringing this petition forward, as it has not reached the threshold of 500 signatures to enable a debate by Councillors, the matter was passed to the Head of Service and Portfolio Holder to consider and determine how to respond. The Head of Culture Tourism and Leisure and Portfolio Holder have considered the petition and have asked me to provide the response below to you.

 

“The objective of the Council’s plans for tennis courts is to get more people playing, and the Council  has been working closely with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) on how this can best be achieved. The LTA are experienced in rolling out similar projects and the evidence shows that more people will play if courts are bookable. In terms of pricing and charging the Council can influence charges and that Councillors will be involved in overseeing the approach taken to charges. This will  include a proportion of FREE sessions and the inclusion of concessionary charges for those who may be on low incomes i.e. seniors, juniors, those on income support.”
