Restore and Modernise Kenilworth Clock Tower for the Community
Delegate responsibility for the Kenilworth Clock Tower from Warwick District Council to Kenilworth Town Council to enable a local solution for its restoration, modernisation (if feasible), and ongoing maintenance, supported by community sponsorship.

The Kenilworth Clock Tower has been out of operation for several months, leaving a vital community landmark in disrepair. James Moore & Co & First Class Watches, a Kenilworth-based jewellery and watch business, has previously offered to sponsor the clock's restoration and ensure its continued maintenance, but this has been hindered by its inclusion in a combined maintenance tender for multiple clocks across the district.

We believe that delegating responsibility for the Kenilworth Clock Tower to Kenilworth Town Council would provide a more focused and community-driven approach. This would allow local businesses, such as ours, to step in and support its restoration. Modernising the clock (where permissible) could also improve its reliability and reduce maintenance challenges associated with its specialist flatbed mechanism.

The clock tower is a symbol of Kenilworth’s identity and should be restored to full working order for the benefit of residents and visitors alike. We urge Warwick District Council to take action and make this transition possible.

Scott Lucas - Petitioner
This petition has been reviewed and the following response has been offered:

Dear Scott Lucas,

Thank you for your petition.

The petition did not secure enough signatures for it to be debated at Council. Therefore Officers have consulted with the relevant Councillor on the response to the Petition and I have been advised of the following:

"As you will note the clock tower has now been repaired  and will be maintained for the new maintenance contract. Any transfer of ownership will be considered alongside a wider review of potential WDC asset transfers to be guided by the new Asset Management Strategy."

Yours sincerely

Graham Leach
